Happy New Year!

We are off to a very positive start in the EWS band program, and we are already planning for our next virtual concert which will have a TV and Movie Music theme!

Please find below the early am band rehearsal schedule for next week. Students are asked to be in the band room by 7:45 a.m. on early morning band days. The school doors will be opened by the custodian at 7:30 a.m. Now that winter weather has arrived, please review the band policy for storm closures, cancellations and delays (see tabs at the top of the page).

Tuesday, January 12th: 7B Early AM Band

Wednesday, January 13th: Grade 9 Brass Early AM Band

Thursday, January 14th: Grade 9 Woodwinds and Percussion Early AM Band

The band room will be open on Monday and Thursday from 12:10-12:45 pm this week for students who wish to practice or record playing assignments. Extra help is available from 3:15-4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.

As always, please send me an e-mail (in advance if possible) if your child is unable to attend an early morning rehearsal.

Thank you!

December 17

Please check your e-mail for a band update and a link to our EWS Band Virtual Christmas Card! I’d like to extend a huge thank you to Synthia MacEachern and Lori Ronahan for their technical support with this project. If anyone did not receive the link to the Christmas videos, please email me at ampeters@edu.pe.ca

All band students must take their instruments home for the holidays to allow for deep cleaning in the instrument storage areas over the break. Students are being encouraged to take all of their important learning materials home this week so they should also take home music books and binders.

Thank you and Happy Holidays to all!

Notice for 9AG Band Students

Students in my 9AG band class are asked to please bring their instruments and music to school tomorrow. There was a problem with the Christmas music recording we did in class and I am hoping to redo it tomorrow afternoon.

Thank you and have a great evening!

Christmas Concert Update

I am disappointed to inform everyone that the difficult decision has been made to not bring the band students together in the gym this week to record the Christmas concert.

Instead, I will be sharing a collection of videos that I am now taking of the students playing their music in their regular band classes. I will also share some short videos of grade level performances which were recorded during our full band rehearsals in the gym last week.

The videos represent works in progress, but hopefully they will give you a snapshot of the music that we have been learning over the past few weeks. I will share the links early next week.

I still hope to be able to do a more professional concert recording later in the year when CPHO guidelines allow us to gather in larger groups again.

Thank you for your support, stay safe, and take care!

Early AM Band is Canceled (Dec.7-18)

Message from Mrs. Cole to the EWS School Community:

For the next two weeks – from Monday, December 7 through Friday, December 18 before and after school programs, and community use of ALL Island schools will be paused.

This includes early morning band and all athletics and clubs.

The full update from the Government of PEI can be found here:

Enhanced Measures to Protect Our School Communities

Concert News!

New assignments to encourage students to practice for the Christmas concert were added to Google Classroom for all band classes yesterday afternoon. Students, please take your instruments home and make a plan to do some practicing before the concert recording session next week. Candy canes will be distributed to students who pick up their instruments in the band area today after school!

There will be a Grade 7 Early AM Band rehearsal in the gym on Monday, Dec. 7th

There will be a Grade 9 Early AM Band rehearsal in the gym on Tuesday, Dec. 8th

Recording sessions for the concert will be held by grade level throughout the morning on Tuesday, Dec. 8th. All students are asked to wear uniforms, and are encouraged to wear Santa hats, reindeer antlers, festive jewelry, etc. on Tuesday.

*We are short a few adult small band vests for grade 7 students, but we have lots of medium vests. If any older students are willing to trade in a small vest for a medium for this concert that would be helpful! I will place an order for more sizes in January.

Please stay tuned to this page for concert updates over the next few days.

The students have been working very hard since September and they are looking forward to sharing their music with all of you!

Band Fees

Just a friendly reminder that the $25 band fee was due yesterday (November 30th).

Payments can be made in the main office or online at eastwiltshire@edu.pe.ca
