General Expectations for the EWS Band Program:
The instrumental music program is a three-year commitment which continues through grade eight and nine. Withdrawal from the program during the school year cannot be accommodated due to scheduling issues.
Students are expected to practice their instruments regularly throughout the school year either in the band room during lunch break, or at home in the evening.
Attendance at early morning band practices is a required component of the band program.
All band concert performances are an important feature of the program and are compulsory. Our expectation is that attendance at evening concerts (3-4 each year) will take precedence over regularly scheduled weekly activities. Every effort will be made to avoid conflicts with school-based extracurricular activities.
It should be understood that the care, cleaning, and maintenance of the assigned instrument is the responsibility of the student. Students are responsible for instrument repair or replacement in case of loss, accidental, or willful damage.
Evaluation will be an ongoing process. Skill development, class preparation, class conduct, and overall effort will be assessed regularly. Continuation in the program is dependent upon satisfactory standings in those areas.
