Saxophone Auditions 2022

Saxophone audition requirements

Students are asked to prepare a scale and a technique study for their audition and they are also given a first year exercise to sight-read.  Auditions are performed in a one-on-one setting outside of class time and I evaluate each part of the audition based on note accuracy, rhythm and beat, articulation, and tone quality.

The students’ band marks and band rehearsal attendance will also be considered.

Each year 4-6 grade 8 band students are selected to play saxophone.  The saxophone is a very popular instrument and it is not unusual for 15 or more students to audition for this limited number of positions.

Students may set up a time to meet with me if they would like to review their rubrics following auditions.
