Saxophone and Percussion Auditions

Grade 7 and 8 students will have the opportunity to audition for percussion and saxophone over the next few days.

A detailed audition schedule has been posted in Google Classroom.

The audition requirements are outlined here on the band blog (see tabs at the top of the page). It is each student’s responsibility to attend their audition at the correct time and to come to the audition with their scales and studies well prepared. Early morning band attendance records, band class participation, and a demonstrated ability to complete assignments on time will also be considered.

Students who are selected will be asked to attend the summer band camp. Registrations will be accepted for beginner saxophone and percussion students after the June 1st deadline.

Please ask students to contact me directly with any questions or concerns. Thanks!

Band Rehearsal Schedule: May 16th-20th

Wednesday, May 18th: Grade 8 Early AM Band

Thursday, May 19th: Grade 9 Early AM Band

Friday, May 20th: Grade 7 Early AM Band

*Jazz Band Rehearsal is canceled after school this Friday. A jazz band meeting will be held on Monday to discuss an alternate rehearsal time for this week.

Extra-curricular band rehearsals will not be held following the band concert on June 8th, which means that we have just three more weeks of regular early morning rehearsals before concert week! I have asked students to please make every effort to have perfect attendance until then, and I appreciate your continuing support with this as well.

Band Camp 2022

After a two year break due to COVID, band students in both Queens and Kings counties will once again have the opportunity to participate in a band day-camp this summer. Registration is now open for students entering grade 8 (intermediate level), grade 9 and grade 10 (senior level). East Wiltshire has always had a high participation rate at the summer band camp at the beginner, intermediate and senior levels. I hope that students will once again take advantage of this amazing opportunity to work with professional musicians and music educators to advance their individual and ensemble skills.

Dates: Aug. 22-26 at Colonel Gray Sr. High School

Online Registration Link: EWS Intermediate and Senior Band Camp Form

The aims of the camp are:

  3. To provide students with an opportunity to meet and perform with students from other Island schools who share their interest in music.

Camp staff are professional instructors and assistants. Instruments taught will include flute, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, French horn, baritone, trombone, tuba, and percussion. Classes will include instruction in instrumental technique as well as opportunities to perform in small ensembles and full band rehearsals.
