Christmas Concert Rehearsals and Reminders

The students have been working hard, and the music for the concert is almost ready to share. The annual EWS Christmas Concert will be held on Tuesday, December 16th at 7:00 p.m.. We are looking forward to seeing you all there!

Uniforms: All students are asked to wear their band uniforms for the concert. The uniform consists of white long sleeved t-shirts, black pants, and band sweater (vest). All grade 7 students should now have received their new black band t-shirts and these should be worn with black pants.

Festive Accessories: Students are strongly encouraged to wear Santa hats, light up necklaces, reindeer antlers, etc. to add to the fun atmosphere of this concert!

Concert Admission: Band students will be accepting donations at the door to support the band program.

Tickets for the EWS Holiday Gift Box Raffle will be sold at the concert again this year with funds raised going toward helping families in our community to have a brighter Christmas. The draw for the winner will be held during the concert.

Christmas Concert Date and Rehearsals this week

We’d love to have full attendance, as every student plays an important role in bringing the performance together. If your child happens to have a conflict with this date, please let me know as soon as possible. Thank you so much for your support!

We will follow the regular early morning band schedule this week. Please note that the Jazz Band is going to find a permanent home for rehearsals on Tuesdays. It was impossible to find a time and day that worked for everyone this year, so we are going with the day that seems to work best for most!

All Grade 9 band students are now asked to meet at 10:00 at East Wiltshire to prepare for the Remembrance Day service which will be held in our gymnasium. Students are reminded to bring their music and instruments back to school on Tuesday morning, and to please arrive at the school in uniform. Thank you!

Remembrance Day Service Location

Thank you to the Grade 9 Band for their valuable contribution to the EWS Remembrance Day assembly yesterday. The students performed the national anthem and provided music throughout the ceremony. Excellent work!

This year’s Remembrance Day Service will be held in Hartsville. The Legion organizers have asked that Grade 9 Band students arrive by 10:00 am. Students who have volunteered to assist with loading the equipment should meet at East Wiltshire at 9:15 am. Currently, we have only one volunteer, so please let me know as soon as possible if you or your student is able to help. Thank you!

You can learn more about the Hartsville WW1 Memorial Obelisk by visiting this link.

Kingston Legion Remembrance Day Service

The EWS Grade 9 Band has been asked to perform again this year at the Royal Canadian  Legion Remembrance Day Service which is being held this year on Tuesday, November 11th at the cenotaph in Hartsville, PEI (Google Map directions to follow). Having our young people perform at this service is a longstanding tradition in our community.

If your child is going to be away, and is unable to attend, please let me know as soon as possible.

We will be loading band equipment (music stands and percussion instruments) at East Wiltshire at 9:15 am on Tuesday, November 11th, and Mr. Cusack and I would really appreciate it if the grade 9 percussion students, as well as 5-10 more parents and/or students, could meet at the school to assist us. We will also need volunteers to help unload the truck at East Wiltshire after the ceremony.

Students have been asked by the Legion organizers to arrive at the Hartsville Cenotaph no later than 10:00 a.m.

Band uniforms must be worn for this formal ceremony. Students should also dress for the weather, and should bring mittens or gloves to keep their hands warm between songs. I will provide clothespins to keep music from blowing off the stands.

Thank you for your commitment to participating in this important community event.
