Remembrance Day Service Location

Thank you to the Grade 9 Band for their valuable contribution to the EWS Remembrance Day assembly yesterday. The students performed the national anthem and provided music throughout the ceremony. Excellent work!

This year’s Remembrance Day Service will be held in Hartsville. The Legion organizers have asked that Grade 9 Band students arrive by 10:00 am. Students who have volunteered to assist with loading the equipment should meet at East Wiltshire at 9:15 am. Currently, we have only one volunteer, so please let me know as soon as possible if you or your student is able to help. Thank you!

You can learn more about the Hartsville WW1 Memorial Obelisk by visiting this link.

The civic address is 2802 PE Highway 225.

Kingston Legion Remembrance Day Service

The EWS Grade 9 Band has been asked to perform again this year at the Royal Canadian  Legion Remembrance Day Service which is being held this year on Tuesday, November 11th at the cenotaph in Hartsville, PEI (Google Map directions to follow). Having our young people perform at this service is a longstanding tradition in our community.

If your child is going to be away, and is unable to attend, please let me know as soon as possible.

We will be loading band equipment (music stands and percussion instruments) at East Wiltshire at 9:15 am on Tuesday, November 11th, and Mr. Cusack and I would really appreciate it if the grade 9 percussion students, as well as 5-10 more parents and/or students, could meet at the school to assist us. We will also need volunteers to help unload the truck at East Wiltshire after the ceremony.

Students have been asked by the Legion organizers to arrive at the Hartsville Cenotaph no later than 10:00 a.m.

Band uniforms must be worn for this formal ceremony. Students should also dress for the weather, and should bring mittens or gloves to keep their hands warm between songs. I will provide clothespins to keep music from blowing off the stands.

Thank you for your commitment to participating in this important community event.

It’s concert week!!

We will follow the regular early morning band schedule this week.

Attendance at each early morning practice is very important this week as we put the finishing touches on our concert program.

Jazz band will be held on Tuesday from 3:00-4:00 pm

Congratulations!

Congratulations to the seven Grade 9 band members who represented East Wiltshire as part of the Mount Allison Honour Band! The concert at Convocation Hall on Sunday afternoon was fantastic.

Next up is the PEI Intermediate Honour Band weekend at UPEI in February, and I hope to see lots of our students involved this year. Students can sign up in Google Classroom or let me know next week if they’d like to be considered!

Concert Next Week!

The first concert of the year is coming up soon!

Please reserve Thursday, October 30th for the Family of Schools Band Concert at Bluefield High School. Students should arrive by 6:30 p.m., and the concert will begin at 7:00 p.m. Grades 8 and 9 students will wear band uniforms, while grade 7 students should wear black pants and dark shoes with their new band t-shirts (which should arrive in time for the performance).

The concert will feature performances by the Englewood 7-9 Band, the Gulf Shore 7-9 Band, our three EWS concert bands, and the Bluefield Concert Band. Mrs. MacLaine (Bluefield band director) is working on the full concert program and I will post it here soon!

PEI Provincial Honours Band

The PEI Intermediate Honour Band is a provincial band composed of student representatives from across PEI. Students who are selected will receive their music in November. Participants will be responsible to practice the music at home and to attend all scheduled rehearsals at school during the months of December and January.  The Eastern area students and Western area students will meet for a full day of rehearsal in January.

This year the PEI Intermediate Honour Band will rehearse at the UPEI Performing Arts Centre Friday, February 6, 2026  – Sunday, February 8, 2026 with the storm dates set for Friday, February 20- Sunday, February 22, 2026 . The musicians will perform a concert for the public on Sunday, February 8, 2026 (the storm date is Sunday, February 22).

Grade 9 students who wish to participate in this very worthwhile enrichment activity must be able to make a commitment to attend all scheduled activities throughout the weekend.

An $80 registration fee is required and will include a pizza party on Saturday, an Honours Band T-shirt and access to a professional recording of the concert which will be posted online. In the past, we have been able to reduce this fee using EWS band funds. I will confirm this once the students have been selected. The fee should not prohibit any student from participating, as additional financial support is available for deserving students.

There is a sign up form in Google classroom!
