Band Fees

Thank you to everyone who has paid their $40 band fee. Band fees pays for uniforms and band supplies used by students throughout the year. Band fees also help with the cost of instrument maintenance and repairs.

Payments are due by November 30th, and they can now be made online through the SchoolCash system. I can also collect cash or cheques in the band area during interviews this week. Thank you!

Good morning

So far (6:40 am) there are no school delays or cancellations on the Island. Early morning band will go ahead unless that changes.

As per the policy on this page, the final decision as to whether or not it is safe to travel to early morning practices rests with parents and guardians and is dependent on conditions in your area.

Please drive carefully!

Last call for Grade 9 Honour Band Applications

We have 13 grade 9 band students signed up for the 2024 PEI Provincial Honour Band. It’s great to see such a strong interest in the program.

I will be submitting names to the Honour Band committee on Thursday. Application/information sheets are available in the band room, and a Google Form to collect contact information has been posted in Google Classroom. Students who are interested in participating in the Honour Band program are asked to sign and return the application, and complete the Google Form by Thursday.

Thank you!

“It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year”

As we prepare for the Christmas concert (scheduled for Wednesday, December 13th at 7:00 p.m.), attendance at rehearsals is very important. Students have been asked to do their best to attend all scheduled rehearsals leading up to the first big concert of the year. Student should also be practicing at home to ensure that they know their individual parts. Thank you to parents and guardians for driving students to rehearsals, and for encouraging them to practice at home over the next few weeks!

Missing Cordial!

Hi everyone,

As far as I know we were missing just 2 items following the Anne’s Chocolates distribution.

If your student’s order was missing an item, could you please send me an email to confirm? I will contact the company later today.

I am pretty sure that one of the missing items was a case of raspberry cordial. The number of cases received matched the number of cases ordered, however, so I’m wondering if anyone ended up with an extra case. If so, please let me know.

Thank you!

Alison

Remembrance Day

I’d like to take a moment to express appreciation for the important contribution made by our grade 9 band students during the recent Remembrance Day ceremonies held at East Wiltshire School. The music provided by the students made a meaningful contribution to both events. Thank you also to the band students who participated as cadets, spoke during the school ceremony, and laid wreaths on behalf of fellow students.

The students’ commitment to these events showcased their musical abilities, and also demonstrated an understanding and respect for the significance of Remembrance Day.

Thank you to the grade 9 band students for your outstanding performances, and for being an essential part of this year’s Remembrance Day observances.

Saturday, Nov. 11 Service: Location Change

The organizers have made the decision to move the annual Kingston Legion Remembrance Day ceremony indoors to East Wiltshire School due to the rainy, cold weather expected for tomorrow.

Grade 9 band students are asked to arrive at East Wiltshire in uniform at 10:00 am tomorrow morning to help set up the gym for the ceremony.

The grade 9 band students did a fantastic job this morning (more on this later!), and I was very proud of them. Thank you for your support, and I will see you in the morning.

Grade 9 Band Information

The Grade 9 band students had an excellent rehearsal this morning, and I am very proud of the work they have done this fall to prepare for both Remembrance Day performances this week.

Early morning band is now canceled for grade 9’s tomorrow (Friday). The school-wide assembly has been moved forward to 10:00 am and the band will now be able to rehearse in the gym during period 1.

Grade 9 band students are reminded that it is very important that they come to school tomorrow prepared to perform (instruments, music, uniforms). Students must wear black pants with their white shirts and vests for this formal assembly; no blue jeans please. Thank you.

Information about the Remembrance Day performance on Saturday morning (November 11) can be found on the November 3 blog post. Students have been asked by the Legion organizers to arrive at the cenotaph (718 Clyde River Road) no later than 10:15 a.m. Once again, band uniforms are required. Students should also dress for the weather, and should bring mittens or gloves to keep their hands warm between songs.

If any students or parents are available to help unload music equipment (music stands and large percussion instruments) back at East Wiltshire following the service, your assistance would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

In the unlikely event that the organizers decide that weather will make it impossible to hold the ceremony outdoors (so far the forecast looks fine), the service will be moved to the East Wiltshire gymnasium. Please check your email and/or the band blog on Saturday morning to be sure that no changes have been made. I will also post a notification in Google Classroom if there is a location change.
