Thank you!

A heartfelt thank you to the Grade 9 Band students for their participation in a very wet Remembrance Day service this morning at the Kingston Legion. You were fantastic, and your presence and your musical contribution to the ceremony was greatly appreciated by everyone present.

Thank you to everyone who helped to move the equipment from the school to the Legion and back again.

PS Please open your instrument cases to ensure that any remaining moisture has a chance to dry!

Remembrance Day Service

The decision has been made to hold the Remembrance Day Service outside at the Kingston Legion Cenotaph.

Band students are asked to please meet at the Legion at 10:00 am. Please dress warmly (hat, mitts, coat), and be prepared for the possibility of rain. If you have plastic three hole insert sheets to put your music in, that might be a good idea! I will bring as many of those sheets as I can find.

We will be loading equipment at East Wiltshire at 9:15 am. If your instrument was left at the school last week you can pick it up then.

Thank you for your commitment to participating in this important community event.

Lest We Forget

Anne’s Chocolates Sales Update

Our fall fundraising campaign is underway and ends on November 14th, 2024. So far we have raised $306.00. Our goal is to match last year’s profit of $4000 so students are asked to please do their best to sell some chocolate this weekend!

Orders will be delivered on November 21st and will be sent home with sellers to distribute to their supporters.

Please click on this link to place orders: Anne’s Chocolates Store (EWS Fundraiser)

Thank you for your support!

Remembrance Day

Thank you to all of the grade 9 band students who performed this morning for the school Remembrance Day assembly. The music was beautiful and the students were focused and respectful. Well done everyone!

The Grade 9 Band will perform again on Monday, November 11th. Students have been asked by the Legion organizers to arrive at the Kingston Legion in New Haven (near Gass’s General Store) by 10:00 a.m. Once again, band uniforms are required. Students should also dress for the weather, and should bring mittens or gloves to keep their hands warm between songs. I will provide clothespins to keep music from blowing off the stands!

The school will be open all day tomorrow (Wednesday) in case any students need to pick up their instruments.

If any students or parents are available to help load music equipment (music stands and large percussion instruments) into the rental van at East Wiltshire, and unload again after the service, your assistance would be greatly appreciated. Please contact me at ampeters@edu.pe.ca if you and/or your student can help.

In the event that the organizers decide that weather will make it impossible to hold the ceremony outdoors, the service will be moved to the East Wiltshire gymnasium. Please check your email and/or the band blog on the weekend to be sure that no changes have been made. I will also post a notification in Google Classroom if there is a location change.

2025 PEI Intermediate Honour Band

The PEI Intermediate Honour Band Program consists of over 100 participants from many of our Prince Edward Island intermediate schools. This year’s conductor is Dr. Dylan Rook Maddix, from Memorial University of Newfoundland and Labrador. We are now accepting applications from grade 9 students from across PEI.

Applications for the 2025 PEI Grade 9 Honour Band are open to any grade 9 student, however, there is a maximum number of students that schools are permitted to enroll. All students must be exemplary members of their band programs and be committed to making music to the best of their ability.

 HONOUR BAND OVERVIEW:

 1. The Honour Band weekend begins Friday Feb. 7 and concludes with a concert Feb. 9 2025. Storm dates are Feb 21-23. The location is at UPEI Performing Arts Centre.

 2. Students must commit to attend a few sectionals at EWS with Mrs. Peters prior to the weekend, and all rehearsals during the HB weekend. Students and guardians are to complete the information letter and sign the statement of commitment. No exceptions will be made during the weekend for missing rehearsals due to other commitments etc.

 3. An official sectional day is held during a school day in early January. This is a regular school day and students will be absent from their regular classes for that day. More details will be provided in late December/early January.

 4. There is a registration fee of $80, however, EWS will pay for half of the fee again this year. The fee will be collected in January. This fee should not prevent any student from participating. Please let me know if you need assistance.

 5. Students are expected to learn their music before the sectional day and actual weekend event. They will receive the music in November. East Wiltshire HB students will have 2 – 3 rehearsals December before the holiday break (likely after our December band concert).
